Early Sunday morning, another large group of Haitians landed on Jamaican shores, continuing the recent pattern of increased migration to the island.
The group, consisting of 35 individuals—29 males, five females, and one child—landed in Kensington near Monchioneal in East Portland. They are currently in police custody.
This latest arrival follows two separate incidents in May, where over 16 Haitians were picked up in the Anchovy Gardens area of Port Antonio. At that time, the vehicle transporting the Haitians developed mechanical problems while en route to Montego Bay, St. James.
Residents in the Anchovy Gardens area initially went to assist the driver of the vehicle, but he was reportedly cautious about accepting help. This led to individuals contacting the police, who then took the driver and the Haitians to the Port Antonio Police Station.
As local authorities handle the situation, the community and officials continue to monitor the increase in such arrivals, emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts to address the ongoing migration challenges.
