Jamaica News, St Elizabeth: An elderly woman perished in a fire which gutted her one apartment dwelling house, in the parish of St Elizabeth on Monday, November 26.
The deceased has been identified as Daisy Spence, 86-year-old of Kilmarnock district, also in St Elizabeth.
Reports by the police are that on Monday, residents living in Kilmarnock district raised an alarm after they discovered the house of the elderly woman on fire.
Community members alerted the police and the Fire Department, after which they rushed to the house and managed to put out the blaze.
The burnt body of the elderly woman was discovered lying in bed, with a section of the room and mattress burnt away.
Upon arrival of the police, the scene was processed and Spence’s body transported to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Residents in the area theorized that Spence who is allegedly mentally challenged, set fire to her own bed and burnt herself alive.
