Former Reno FC Stalwart Boysie ‘Bengeleng’ Nicholson Passes Away After Battle with Parkinson’s Disease

Westmoreland, Jamaica – The Jamaican football community is mourning the loss of former national player and Reno FC legend Boysie ‘Bengeleng’ Nicholson, who passed away this morning at his home in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, after a prolonged battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Nicholson, a dynamic and robust midfielder, played a crucial role in Reno FC’s dominance during the 1990s, helping the club secure three National Premier League titles. His tenacity and skill on the field earned him widespread respect, particularly in western Jamaica, where he was seen as a trailblazer for the region’s football talent.

After hanging up his boots, Nicholson transitioned into coaching, where he enjoyed a successful stint with Reno FC before moving on to schoolboy football. He led Frome Technical High School to victory in the daCosta Cup, solidifying his legacy as both a player and coach.

Nicholson’s passing marks the fifth loss of a Reno FC stalwart in recent years, following the deaths of fellow national players Caple ‘Corntail’ Donaldson, Calvin ‘Wappy’ Valentine, and club icons Desmond ‘Big Head’ Pringle and Cecil ‘Silla’ Pringle.

Widely revered, Nicholson is remembered as a precursor to the generation of western Jamaican players who played pivotal roles in Jamaica’s historic qualification for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France. His contributions to Jamaican football will be cherished for years to come as the community honors his memory.
