Former footballer Randy Ramcharan has died after collapsing during a masters football match in Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday night.
Ramcharan, 45, of Chaguanas, was playing for St. Augustine Old Boys in the Over-40 final of the Edinburgh 500 Masters Football Tournament against Defence Force Masters when tragedy struck. According to reports, approximately 15 minutes into the match, he requested to be substituted before suddenly collapsing while seated on the bench.)
Players, officials and spectators reportedly rushed to assist him before he was transported to the Chaguanas Health Centre, where he was later pronounced dead. Relatives believe he suffered a heart attack
Ramcharan was a past student of St. Augustine Secondary School and was widely respected within the football community as a leader of the St. Augustine Old Boys team. Former teammates and friends described him as a gifted midfielder, motivator and dedicated family man.
He also represented clubs including Caledonia AIA and Doc’s Khelwalas during his football career.
Ramcharan would have celebrated his 46th birthday next month. His sudden passing has sent shockwaves through Trinidad and Tobago’s football fraternity, with tributes pouring in from former teammates, supporters and members of the sporting community.
