A destructive blaze tore through a section of Craig Town in St Andrew on Sunday afternoon, leaving several residents without homes and damaging multiple structures, including a bar.
The fire erupted at a property situated along the intersection of Union and Jamaica streets. Residents reported seeing heavy plumes of smoke shortly after 3:15 p.m., moments before flames rapidly spread from one building to others within the yard.
Three firefighting units from the Jamaica Fire Brigade were dispatched to the scene and mounted an emergency response to bring the situation under control. Firefighters remained deployed as lingering smoke continued to rise from the blackened remains of the buildings.
The incident forced several occupants from their homes. Emergency responders also rescued a visually impaired man who had been trapped inside one of the burning structures.
Area Member of Parliament and Opposition Leader Mark Golding visited the location, where he observed recovery efforts and spoke with affected residents.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
