Fire Destroys Sections of Papine Market

Jamaica News, St Andrew: Fire of unknown origin destroyed a section of the Papine Market in St Andrew on Thursday morning, May 31.

The police have reported that no one was seriously injured during the fire.

Reports by the Papine police are that shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, a commuter saw smoke coming from a section of the market building and raised an alarm.

The Police and Fire Department were also summoned and upon arrival, it took the firefighters close to an hour to put out the blaze.

When the fire died down, it was discovered that sections of the building, such as the roofing and wall structure had collapsed.

The police say inspectors attached to the Papine Fire Department are now carrying out investigations at the market to determine the cause of the fire.
