Sacramento, California – A 28-year-old father is in custody after a horrific incident in which authorities found the severed head of his 1-year-old son inside his home.
On the morning of December 20th, deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Versailles Way following a report of a domestic disturbance. A woman outside the home informed authorities that her husband, Andrey Demskiy, had physically assaulted both her and her mother.
Demskiy’s mother-in-law was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. When deputies attempted to contact Demskiy, he refused to cooperate or surrender.
Authorities learned that Demskiy might have harmed his 1-year-old son, identified as Micah Demskiy. Upon forced entry into the residence, deputies discovered the infant’s severed head while attempting to apprehend Demskiy, who resisted arrest.
Investigators believe the tragic incident unfolded after a domestic dispute between Demskiy, his wife, and his mother-in-law. Following the departure of the victims from the home, Demskiy allegedly used a knife to behead his son.
Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesperson for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, described the case as “one of the most horrific” he has encountered in his career, stating that deputies were deeply affected by the incident.
Demskiy was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Jail on charges of murder, assault with the intent to cause great bodily injury, domestic violence, and assault resulting in the death of a child under eight years old. He is being held without bail.
During his initial court appearance on December 24th, Demskiy reportedly appeared in court with a smile on his face. He was observed wearing blue clothing, indicating he is currently receiving psychiatric treatment within the jail. His next court date is scheduled for March 13th.
