Family of Five Kidnapped and Held Hostage in Westmoreland

Jamaica Crime News, Westmoreland: The Westmoreland police have now confirmed that five persons who are part of a very popular family and who were kidnapped by a group of armed men in the Withorne policing area on Wednesday morning , have now been released. The family is now  being checked by a doctor and also questioned by the police.

The police also confirmed that the five persons, which includes four female and a male, were kidnapped from their home and several million dollars in random demanded for their release.

Reports are that between the hours of 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., the five family members were asleep in bed at their home at a section of Galloway District known as Old Road.

Minutes later, three heavily armed men forced their way inside the house and held them hostage.

The gunmen then took them from the house to an isolated bushy section in the area where they held them for several hours.

The lawmen related that the kidnappers demanded several million dollars for the release of the family.

One investigator said that it would appear that the ransom was paid, because following a relentless search by community members and the police, the five were found alive in bushes in the area.

A joint military team is now combing sections of the area in search of the gunmen.
