Kingston, Jamaica — The family of 4-year-old Alexandriana Jones is alleging negligence in her death at the Bustamante Hospital for Children following a surgical procedure in December 2024.
According to the family, Alexandriana was admitted to the Kingston-based hospital to remove a tumor from behind her eye on December 18. Hospital staff allegedly informed them that the surgery was successful, and the child was placed on life support.
The family said they were allowed to visit Alexandriana in the intensive care unit and were assured that doctors were doing everything possible to revive her. However, they claim they noticed concerning signs, including swelling, stiffness, and visible signs of decomposition on the child’s body.
On December 31, hospital staff reportedly declared Alexandriana brain dead and removed her from life support.
The family alleges that subsequent findings contradicted the hospital’s assurances. An autopsy revealed that the tumor was still present and suggested that Alexandriana may have died during or shortly after surgery on December 18. They also claim that the child’s body showed signs of advanced decomposition, with her internal organs deteriorating and blood bags and tubes left attached when her body was placed in cold storage.
The incident has left the family heartbroken and demanding answers.
Hospital authorities have not publicly commented on the allegations, and it remains unclear if an internal investigation is underway.
The family is urging health officials to conduct a thorough inquiry to address their concerns and ensure accountability.
