Latest Jamaica News, Montego Bay: Reggae Grammy nominee Etana, is still reveling in the aftermath of her performance at Reggae Sums performance on Saturday night.
The artiste performed at the festival for the first time since 2010, and says her protracted absence was, for the most part, self-imposed.
“I am now in love with the new management of Reggae Sumfest, the way they treat us as artistes and right now I feel very comfortable being associated with the Reggae Sumfest brand,” she said.
The singer who has returned to residing in the US, delivered a powerful set on Saturday night, at the show which also featured the likes of Beres Hammond, Protoje, Jah9, Romain Virgo, Christopher Martin and dancehall heavyweight Buju Banton.
At the end of her half-hour stint, the artiste, whose given name is Shauna McKenzie, described her performance as being “a nice interaction with some of the world’s greatest supporters of her craft”.
“I enjoyed it. In fact, I love it. Working with LA’Cadco and my own band and background vocalists-you could not have asked for more. The audience was simply incredible. Their response and appreciation for my performance was simply awesome,” she said.
She noted that as a female reggae artiste she continues to deliver materials which not just her fans will love and appreciate, but “supporters of the craft, the artistry and the work which is involved”.
“I work hard. I write songs that I sing which the public can relate to. These songs are from my own experiences and those of others – these are stories are real and because of that my fans continue to support me”, she said.
Etana said she will now return her attention to working on a new album and other songs which are due to be released in October, as well as, several tours which are in the making.
