KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) has announced that Election Day workers, along with members of the police and military, will cast their votes early on Friday, August 29, ahead of the island’s General Election.
A total of 45,455 special service electors are expected to vote across 215 designated locations. These include schools, churches, police stations, community centres, and military bases.
The EOJ broke down the figures as follows:
- 12,793 police officers
- 5,126 military personnel
- 27,536 Election Day workers
Voting locations have been set up to include:
- 10 polling locations for military voters
- 21 for police officers
- 184 for Election Day workers
Under the Representation of the People Act, these groups vote early so they are available to carry out their duties on Election Day – September 3.
The EOJ warned that special voters who miss Friday’s vote will not be able to vote on September 3, as their names have been removed from the civilian Voters’ List for the day.
Ballots cast on August 29 will be secured, sorted, and counted on September 3, alongside the rest of the votes.
The EOJ says it worked closely with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) to ensure a smooth and timely process.
