A 38-year-old engineer was crushed to death in a worksite accident at the Montego Bay Bypass construction site in St James on Thursday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Clifton James, an engineer attached to Stanley Consultants.
Reports are that James was at the construction site in the Granville area shortly before 10 a.m. when tragedy struck.
James was reportedly carrying out measurements at the worksite when he was struck by a truck that was reversing in the area. He was crushed by the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.
Emergency personnel and the police were called to the scene, but James was pronounced dead.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated by the police.
The Montego Bay Bypass is part of the wider Montego Bay Perimeter Road Project, which is aimed at improving traffic flow and connectivity in the western parish.
The fatal incident has once again highlighted the importance of strict safety measures at major construction sites, where workers operate in close proximity to heavy machinery and moving vehicles.
Further details are expected as the investigation continues.
