A 74-year-old man lost his life in a fire that completely destroyed his home in Mandeville, Manchester, on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Ronald West, of a Balvenie Heights address in Mandeville.
Reports indicate that shortly after 12:15 p.m., residents in the community alerted the fire department after noticing fire coming from a section of West’s home.
Three fire units responded, but upon their arrival at the board-and-concrete dwelling, they had to spend over an hour extinguishing the blaze, which had completely engulfed the premises.
Minutes later, while carrying out cooling down operations, they found the burnt remains of the homeowner beneath the rubble.
The house and its contents were completely destroyed.
