CLARENDON, Jamaica — Authorities are investigating the death of a 76-year-old man whose body was discovered in a water tank in the Lesterfield district, two days after he was reported missing.
The deceased has been identified as Edwin Ellis, affectionately known as “Mass Jack,” of Minor District, near Sanguinetti in northwestern Clarendon.
According to police reports, Ellis, who reportedly suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, was last seen around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. A missing persons alert was raised when he failed to return home, prompting concern among relatives and residents.
The search ended in tragedy early Monday morning, around 8:30 a.m., when his body was found submerged in a pond-like water tank in the nearby Lesterfield area. The Jamaica Fire Brigade was summoned to assist with the recovery of the body.
Investigators from the Manchester Police Division are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination to determine the official cause of death, though no foul play has been confirmed at this time.
