Downtown Kingston Shootout Leaves Four Dead, One Injured

Four Dead in Downtown Kingston Shootout: Four men lost their lives and one policeman sustained injuries during an alleged shootout with law enforcement officers in downtown Kingston on Wednesday morning,

The incident unfolded on Princess Street near the hospital when two officers on patrol were startled by the sound of multiple explosions emanating from Orange Street. Rushing to the scene, they reportedly witnessed a group of men engaged in a fierce exchange of gunfire.

Upon spotting the lawmen, the assailants turned their weapons on them, prompting the officers to retaliate. Chaos ensued as the men scattered in different directions, with one group attempting to flee in a white Toyota vehicle.

A high-speed pursuit ensued, resulting in a crash at the intersection of King Street and Charles Street. As the vehicle came to a halt, six men emerged, unleashing a barrage of bullets at the pursuing officers. In the ensuing exchange, three of the assailants were struck down, with three 9mm pistols recovered from their persons. Additionally, a search of the vehicle yielded two M-16 rifles.

While some of the suspects managed to evade capture, one wounded individual, believed to have been involved in the shootout, was later found seeking medical attention. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to the hospital.

The intensity of the confrontation also resulted in injury to law enforcement personnel, with a constable from Kingston West Division sustaining gunshot wounds to his right arm. He is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident, aiming to unravel the circumstances surrounding the shootout and apprehend any remaining suspects.
