Elaine Thompson-Herah, the two-time Olympic sprint double champion, has withdrawn from the national trials due to an injury, thus ruling her out of defending her sprint titles at the upcoming Paris Olympic Games. Her management team, Andisportsmanagement, announced this on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old sprinter appeared to suffer an injury during the 100m race at the New York City Grand Prix earlier this month, where she was seen being carried off the track. Reports indicate that Thompson-Herah injured her Achilles during the event.
Thompson-Herah, the reigning back-to-back Olympic sprint double champion, finished the race in 11.48 seconds, placing last. She immediately removed her shoes and limped off the track. This was her first race since the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon last month, where she also finished last, clocking in at 11.30 seconds.
