Kingston, Jamaica – In a dramatic turnaround, Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate Donovan Williams has officially reclaimed the Central Kingston seat following today’s (September 5) final count by the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ).
On Wednesday, initial results had declared People’s National Party (PNP) candidate Steve McGregor the winner by a slim margin of 12 votes. However, after the official recount supervised by the EOJ, Williams emerged as the victor, securing the seat for the JLP.
The updated results now give the JLP a 35–28 majority in the House of Representatives, tightening their hold on Parliament as Jamaica moves into the start of a historic third term.
The contest for Central Kingston was one of the most closely watched battles of this election, with both candidates commanding strong support bases. The recount underscores just how crucial every single vote can be in shaping Jamaica’s political future.
For residents of Central Kingston, the outcome not only determines their parliamentary representative but also signals the balance of power as the new government prepares to settle into office
