Jamaica Crime News, Manchester: The Manchester police have confirmed that they are now in search of a taxi operator who reportedly chopped his 8-months-old son to death, chopped his baby mother almost to death and then jumped to his own death in a sinkhole in Broad Leaf community in the parish.
So far the name of the dead man has not been given, but the child has been identified as Roshane McPherson.
The wounded female is presently at hospital in critical condition.
Reports from the Mandeville police are that about 6:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, residents in Broadleaf community were alerted to shouts for help, coming from the home of Mr. McPherson, and went to investigate.
Upon entering the premises which is located at McKinley Drive, they discovered the small child and the mother, who were both lying in a pool of blood, with multiple chop wounds all over their bodies.
McPherson drove away in his vehicle which he used to operate a taxi.
Residents in the community summoned the police and both victims were taken to hospital. The child was pronounced dead, and the woman admitted in serious condition.
The residents went in search of the taxi operator and reportedly caught up with him along a section of the Porus main road, but he jumped from the vehicle and ran into bushes.
It is further stated that the angry residents set the vehicle on fire and McPherson went to a sinkhole in the community, and jumped in, allegedly killing himself.
Several rescue teams and the police are present at the location trying to retrieve the body from the sinkhole.
