Kingston, Jamaica: Kayodi Satchell, a dental assistant, was sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday for the horrific murder of eight-year-old Danielle Rowe. She will be eligible for parole after serving 27 years and four months.
Justice Carolyn Tie-Powell, the presiding judge, described Satchell’s actions as “sheer evil.” The court noted the devastating impact of the crime on Danielle’s family, particularly her siblings who continue to mourn her loss.
Satchell pleaded guilty to the murder and child stealing charges in September. She admitted to abducting Danielle from her school in Portmore, St. Catherine, and taking her to a location in St. Andrew where she inflicted fatal injuries. The young girl succumbed to her injuries a few days later.
The sentencing hearing revealed a disturbing motive. Satchell claimed she was driven by bitterness and frustration after being jilted by Danielle’s father, whom she accused of infecting her with HIV.
The case has shocked the nation and highlighted the need for increased vigilance and protection of children.
