The legal battle between plus-size rapper Dank DeMoss and ride-sharing giant Lyft has reached its conclusion, with DeMoss reportedly losing her lawsuit. The case, which ignited a national conversation about discrimination and accessibility, stemmed from an incident in January where a Lyft driver refused to transport DeMoss, citing concerns about his vehicle’s capacity.
DeMoss, whose real name is Dajua Blanding, filed the lawsuit alleging that the driver’s refusal was an act of discrimination based on her weight, a protected characteristic under Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act. The incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media, showed a confrontation between DeMoss and the driver, where the driver expressed reservations about his car’s ability to accommodate her size.
The lawsuit argued that Lyft failed to ensure its drivers adhered to anti-discrimination policies and that the driver’s actions caused emotional distress and violated DeMoss’s civil rights.
However, despite the initial media attention and public outcry, the legal outcome did not favor DeMoss. While specific court details have not been widely publicized, it has been confirmed that she lost the lawsuit.
