Kevin Smith, the controversial leader of the Pathways International Restoration Kingdom Ministries, is said to have perished in a car accident in St. Catherine not long ago.
The crash severely injured a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
According to the Constabulary’s Corporate Communications Unit, a police service vehicle was involved in a collision this morning.
Smith was being transferred to Kingston for questioning after what appears to be a human sacrifice at the Pathways International Kingdom Restoration Ministries.
After the police were called about an alleged ceremony at the church, they discovered two persons with their throats cut.
Another man was allegedly shot and killed by police when he attacked them with a knife.
The police had indicated that charges would be filed against Smith following the incident, in which it is believed that arrangements were made to sacrifice up to 144 persons.
At least one person detained told police that Smith urged him to carry out the human sacrifice.
Members of the police high command are en route to the accident scene.
