KINGSTON, Jamaica — A correctional officer facing allegations of attempting to take prohibited items into a Kingston correctional facility had his bail extended when he appeared before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
The accused, Floyd Carnegie, has been charged with introducing prohibited articles into a correctional institution following an incident linked to the Horizon Adult Remand Centre.
When the matter was called in court, Carnegie appeared without legal representation. He explained to Presiding Judge Alwayne Smith that his attorney was absent due to unresolved payment issues.
Addressing the court, Carnegie requested consideration regarding the situation, stating that outstanding legal fees may have contributed to his lawyer’s absence.
Judge Smith reminded the accused that the allegations are serious and warned that a conviction could carry significant consequences. The judge also advised Carnegie to resolve his legal arrangements before the next court date.
Carnegie is scheduled to return to court on June 8, 2026, when he is expected to appear with his attorney.
