MANCHESTER, Jamaica — A 30-year-old bus conductor has been charged after police reportedly seized a firearm and ammunition during a patrol operation in Georges Valley on Sunday night.
The accused has been identified as Chevon Johnson, otherwise called “Jessie,” whose addresses are listed as Sweden Street in Georges Valley, Manchester, and Barrett Drive in August Town, St Andrew.
According to a police statement issued on Wednesday, Johnson faces charges of possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.
Reports from the Mandeville police indicate that about 9:15 p.m., officers were carrying out patrol duties in the area when Johnson’s behaviour reportedly drew their attention.
Police say that when the officers approached, Johnson attempted to run but was quickly apprehended.
A search of his person allegedly led to the discovery of a Smith & Wesson Springfield 9mm pistol along with six rounds of ammunition.
Johnson was subsequently charged and is scheduled to appear before the Manchester Parish Court on March 13.
