The 24th KPMG Squash League semi finals get under way this evening at 6:00 pm at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston, with Racketeers taking taking on Fantastic Warriors and Blown battling Saints. Both matches will be played concurrently on Court 4 and Court 6 respectively.
The semi finals are expected to be very competitive based on the teams results to date. Three of the four teams have won every match played since the start of the league. They are Racketeers, Fantastic Warriors and Saints.
A new winner will be crowned this year as last year's champion AGI (Advantage General Insurance) was plagued by a number of issues including a fifty percent change of the team’s line up and did not make it out of the first round.
Two other matches will be played in what is called plate or matches for the losing teams to determine their placements in the league. Those matches will see The Juniors vs AGI and JDF vs Samosas. Those matches will also begin at 6:00 at the same venue.
The league began with sixteen teams in early March and featured sixty-four players from beginners to national champions. The players were all given handicaps based on their skill level in order to level the playing field; and give everyone a chance to do well. The competition was made challenging by having the games go to twenty-one instead of the normal eleven.
