Commissioner Blake Highlights Major Crime Reductions, Reaffirms JCF’s Commitment to Public Safety

“Each number represents a life saved, a community stabilised, and a signal that the tide is turning,” said Blake. He also cited decreases in other key crime categories: shootings down by 30 per cent, rapes by 47 per cent, and robberies by 4 per cent.

Blake credited the reduction to the careful planning, dedication, and professionalism of the men and women of the JCF and the Jamaica Defence Force, as well as the support of strategic partners in the security and intelligence community.

Addressing growing public concern over fatal police encounters and the lack of body-worn cameras during operations, Blake maintained that the JCF remains a “disciplined, modern law enforcement agency” committed to serving all Jamaicans “without fear, favour or ill will.”

“These criminals act with shocking boldness in recording and sharing their crimes on social media, displaying a chilling disregard for life and law,” Blake said. “So should it surprise anyone that these same criminals who murder at will, turn their weapons on members of the security forces? Let me reassure you—we are undeterred. We will not retreat.”

The commissioner’s remarks come at a time of heightened national debate about the balance between effective policing and the protection of citizens’ rights. While applauding recent gains, Blake acknowledged the need to maintain public trust and enhance accountability.

The JCF says it remains focused on dismantling criminal networks and ensuring safer communities islandwide.
