A motor vehicle crash in Sandy Bay, Clarendon on Monday afternoon has claimed the life of a 67-year-old driver after his car reportedly left the roadway and collided with fixed objects.
The deceased has been identified as Ralston Pinnock, a resident of Sandy Bay. Police reports indicate that Pinnock was operating a silver Toyota Belta along the Rosewell main road when the vehicle drifted off course and crashed into the space between a wall and a utility pole.
Emergency responders, including police and firefighters, were dispatched to the scene. Fire personnel removed Pinnock from the wrecked car, after which he was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Family members told investigators that Pinnock was diabetic and had complained earlier in the day about feeling unwell. They believe he may have experienced a blackout before the collision. Authorities have not confirmed that theory.
Figures released by the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch show that as of February 2, a total of 25 people have died in traffic incidents across Jamaica since the start of the year.
