Cincinnati, OH — A 77-year-old woman, Kathleen Geiger, has been arrested and charged with reckless homicide following a tragic incident in which she allegedly fatally shot a 58-year-old man, Arthur Osborne, who had jokingly asked her to shoot him. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, according to an affidavit filed in Hamilton County Municipal Court.
The court documents indicate that Geiger and Osborne were engaged in what she described as “harmless banter” when he made the joking request. Believing her firearm was empty, Geiger pointed the gun at Osborne and pulled the trigger, inadvertently causing the fatal injury.
Osborne was shot once in the pelvic region and, despite Geiger’s efforts to provide medical aid and her immediate call to 911, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kathleen Geiger is seen in a police handout image released by the Cincinnati Police Department. Her bond has been set at $10,000, and she is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
A grand jury is scheduled to hear the case for possible indictment on October 31. The incident raises questions about gun safety and the consequences of reckless behavior, even in seemingly lighthearted situations.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
