Los Angeles, USA — R&B superstar Chris Brown appears to have reached a settlement in a civil lawsuit filed against him over an alleged nightclub assault in London, putting one aspect of his ongoing legal troubles to rest.
The lawsuit, brought by Abe Diaw in 2023, accused Brown of attacking him with a tequila bottle during a party at TAPE nightclub. Court documents filed on Friday show that Diaw has requested the case be dismissed with prejudice, effectively preventing him from refiling the suit in the future — a move that strongly suggests a private settlement has been reached.
Diaw had claimed that Brown struck him three times with a Don Julio 1942 bottle, then stomped on him while he was unconscious, causing serious injuries.
Though the terms of the apparent settlement have not been made public and no financial details have been disclosed, legal analysts note that dismissals with prejudice typically follow a negotiated resolution.
While this may close the chapter on the civil side of the case, Brown still faces a criminal trial related to the same incident. The singer was arrested earlier this year upon landing in the UK for his world tour, and has since been charged with assault and possession of a weapon.
He was later released on bail and appeared in court 10 days ago, where he entered a not guilty plea. The criminal proceedings remain active as Brown continues to fight the charges.
More updates to come as the case unfolds in court.
