Zandre Roye and Ryan Lue were challenged on day one of the tenth Latin America Amateur Championship (LAAC) (golf) on Thursday at the Pilar Golf Club in Buenas Aires, Argentina. The four day championship will run until Sunday at the same venue.
Roye started out well posing three under par after seven holes but was pegged back at the half way mark after making two bogeys, to end on one under par at the stage. The other half of the round was the opposite as he scored four over par, to eventually close the round on three over par 75. That score saw him tied with ten others at the 61th position at the end of the first day of the championship.
“Conditions out there were tough today. Got it going at the start but as the day went along and the course started to dry out a lot, green started to get a lot faster and you know it took a little bit of adjusting. All in all I am not in a terrible spot for tomorrow. Just gotta go out there and keep my head down and stay focused and will definitely be playing weekend” said Roye. He is hoping to have a better second round and make the cut on his second attempt at the championship.
Lue who in his first outing at the championship had it rough going from the start. He posted six over par for his first half and eight over par for the second half for a total of fourteen over par 86 on the day. He is hoping for a better scores on the second day on the championship.
Jamaica’s best placement at the championship to date is 24th by Ian Facey back in 2015.
Roye’s best world ranking is four hundred and eighty-seven while Lue is further back on one thousand two hundred and thirty-four.
This year’s championship boasts one hundred and seven golfers from twenty-eight. The list includes some familiar competitors such as Barbados, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, the Cayman Islands and Trinidad and Tobago.
