Kingston, Jamaica (McN) — In a news release, the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) today, Thurday March 23, issues public notice that the Bustamante Hospital for Children is only accepting emergency cases effective immediately until further notice.

Per the release from SERHA, the decision to only accept emergency patients was made as a result of union actions underway by the Health Records staff of the hospital after an incident at the hospital, between a clerk, and a parent of a patient at the Children Hospital, which left the Health Record Clerk in serious condition.

Reports are that about 11:00 pm on Wednesday an incident, involving a parent and Health Records clerk occurred, leaving the clerk with serious injures, requiring surgery at the Kingston Public Hospital.

The Bustamante Hospital for Children Health Records Clerks have now taken industrial actions.
