Bus Conductor Who Escaped Police Custody Fined $70,000 or 30 Days in Prison

A St. Catherine bus conductor who escaped police custody at the Spanish Town police station on June 28, while being processed on arrest warrants, was fined $70,000 or 30 days in prison when he appeared before the St. Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday.

The accused, 37-year-old Christopher Douglas of Spanish Town, St. Catherine, was also charged with resisting arrest. However, his attorney, Stefan Mathews, made a plea in court which led to the judge withdrawing the charge.

Reports indicate that around 11:30 a.m., Douglas was taken into custody on warrants for breaching the Road Traffic Act and was taken to the Spanish Town police station to be processed. He somehow managed to run from the station compound and made his escape, but following a search by the police, he was subsequently rearrested.
