ST MARY, Jamaica — A man has been charged with murder following the shocking death of his elder brother in Jeffery Town, Gayle.
57-year-old Canute Clemmings, also called “Elton”, allegedly killed 71-year-old Dennis Clemmings, known locally as “Lengae”, at their home on Sunday, August 31.
According to the Port Maria Police, residents went to check on Dennis around 6:30 a.m. after not seeing him since the previous day. They reportedly saw Canute leaving the house in a hurry. Upon entering the home, they found Dennis lying on his bedroom floor with a head wound. Police were alerted, and he was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation was immediately launched, and Canute was taken into custody the same day. He was formally charged on Thursday, September 4, following a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney. A court date is being finalized.
The violent incident has left the normally quiet Jeffery Town community in shock, with many residents calling it a tragedy that has shaken the entire parish.
