Pop icon Britney Spears was taken into custody Wednesday night in Ventura County, California, after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
According to law enforcement sources, officers with the California Highway Patrol detained the singer at approximately 9:30 p.m. She was later transported for processing and formally booked by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department shortly after 3:00 a.m.
Jail records indicate that Spears was released from custody around 6:00 a.m. the following morning. Representatives for the entertainer have not yet issued a public statement regarding the incident.
The arrest comes shortly after Spears secured a legal victory in court. Earlier this year, she obtained a permanent restraining order against a Louisiana man who allegedly appeared uninvited at her Los Angeles residence after posting several troubling messages about the singer on social media.
Court documents reveal the 51-year-old man had been targeting Spears online since 2013. Authorities previously arrested him in 2025 after he allegedly trespassed on her property.
Spears has also faced legal challenges in the past. In 2007, she was charged with four misdemeanor offenses related to an alleged hit-and-run involving a parked vehicle in Los Angeles. Those charges were later dismissed after the vehicle’s owner was compensated for damages, and a jury ultimately cleared her of a remaining charge of driving without a California license.
Following that period, Spears experienced personal turmoil that included losing custody of her two sons with former husband Kevin Federline amid widely reported concerns about her behavior and substance use.
