Nain, St. Elizabeth – The Nain community in St. Elizabeth has been left in shock following the discovery of a retiree’s body in a water tank on Tuesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Garfield Barnes, otherwise called “Polly,” a well-known resident of the Stephen Run district in Nain.
According to reports, around 5:45 p.m., residents discovered Barnes’ body floating in a water tank in the area and immediately raised an alarm. Upon closer inspection, an electrical cord was found wrapped around his neck.
Police were alerted and the body was subsequently removed from the tank. Authorities have not yet confirmed the circumstances surrounding his death, and it remains unclear whether foul play is suspected.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled to determine the cause of death as investigations continue.
Residents describe Barnes as a quiet, familiar face in the community, and many expressed sorrow and confusion following the grim discovery.
Police are urging anyone with information that may assist in the investigation to come forward.
