GREGORY PARK, St Catherine — Authorities are investigating the grim discovery of a decomposing body found inside a vehicle on Tuesday afternoon, believed to be that of eight-year-old Navardo Blackburn, who had been reported missing since the weekend.
Navardo, who was autistic, was last seen on Saturday afternoon playing in a field near his home in Gregory Park. His disappearance prompted an intense search effort by family, residents, and police.
Around 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, community members alerted authorities after detecting a foul odor coming from a parked car in the area. Police responded and, upon inspecting the vehicle, found the body inside.
While formal identification is pending, investigators believe the remains are those of the missing child. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
The heartbreaking development has sent shockwaves through the Gregory Park community, where many had held out hope for the boy’s safe return.
Police have not ruled out foul play, and the investigation remains ongoing.
