Bodies Found in Vehicle Washed Away by Floodwaters in St Catherine During Tropical Storm Rafael

Police have confirmed the discovery of two bodies in a vehicle that was swept away by floodwaters in Lluidas Vale, St Catherine, during the passage of Tropical Storm Rafael on Tuesday.

The vehicle, which had been missing since the storm, was spotted around 9 a.m. on Thursday, nearly two days later, when floodwaters receded.

Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, Commanding Officer for the St Catherine North Division, confirmed that the vehicle was retrieved with the help of a tractor from Worthy Park Estates. The search and recovery operation, which involved local authorities and estate workers, concluded hours later once the vehicle was safely removed from the floodwaters.

The bodies, believed to be those of two individuals who had been reported missing following the storm, were found inside the vehicle. The area is currently being processed by police, and investigations are ongoing.

This tragic discovery comes just days after authorities launched a search for the pair who were last seen attempting to navigate the flood-affected area during Tropical Storm Rafael. The storm caused widespread flooding across parts of Jamaica, and the search efforts were initially hindered by high waters.

As rescue teams continue to assess the aftermath of the storm, local authorities have urged the public to stay vigilant as more weather-related incidents are expected in the coming days. The community of Lluidas Vale remains shaken by the loss, as the storm has claimed several lives and caused significant damage throughout St Catherine.
