Jamaica Sports News: Belgium on Saturday, completed its best-ever finish at a FIFA world cup, after beating England 2-0 in St. Petersburg to claim third place.
The Belgians who defeated England 1-0 in the group stage, got off to a rousing start and it came as no surprise when they took the lead after just four minutes, when Thomas Meunier finished off a brilliant left-sided move.
England hit back with a few scoring opportunities of their own but just could not capitalize.
The red devils took advantage to add a second on minute 82, from Captain Eden Hazard, who got behind the England defense to squeeze inside goalkeeper Jordan Pickford’s near post to seal a very solid performance and world cup for Roberto Martinez’ team.
Their previous best finish at a world cup came in 1986 when they ended fourth in Mexico.
England’s captain Harry Kane failed to add to his six goals in the tournament, but so too Romeo Lukaku who has four.
So unless Kylian Mbappe and or Antoine Griezmann who both have three goals each, can get a hat trick in the world cup final, Kane would be the golden boot winner.
The tournament will come to an end on Sunday in Moscow, with 1998 champions France facing Croatia at the Luzhniki stadium.
