Police in St Elizabeth are investigating a fatal shooting believed to be linked to a robbery that claimed the life of a bartender and nail technician on Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as 39-year-old Nicola Facey of Red Bank in the parish.
According to police reports, at approximately 10:51 p.m., Facey was walking along a roadway in Red Bank when a motor vehicle drove up to her. Several men reportedly exited the vehicle and demanded her personal belongings.
Investigators say Facey resisted, leading to a struggle during which she was shot. The assailants then fled the scene with her purse. She was later pronounced dead.
The incident has heightened concerns about violent crime in the area, with police intensifying their probe into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
In a separate but possibly related development, law enforcement is also investigating an abduction that occurred in the neighbouring community of Rose Hall on the same night.
Reports indicate that a woman was forced into a car at gunpoint. However, a police source revealed that she was later released by her abductors.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the two incidents are connected, but investigations remain ongoing.
