Daniel McIntosh, one of the men who infamously escaped from the Barnett Street Police Station lock-up in St. James last December, was fatally shot by the police on Tuesday during an operation aimed at apprehending him.
The incident occurred in the Mazeland area of Cambridge in the parish, according to police reports. Law enforcement officials stated that a loaded AK47 rifle with its serial number erased was recovered from McIntosh at the scene.
The police detailed that the operation took place around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1st. Armed with a search warrant, a team of officers went to a premises in Mazeland, Cambridge, with the objective of locating suspects who were part of the December 14, 2024, jailbreak at the Barnett Street Police Station, as well as other wanted individuals.
Upon arrival at the identified location, the police reported that they knocked on the door and announced their presence. They stated that they heard movements from within the house. According to the police report, an officer then breached the door and allegedly observed McIntosh in possession of a firearm, which he reportedly pointed in their direction.
The police further stated that in response to this perceived threat, officers took evasive action and discharged their weapons at McIntosh. Following the exchange of gunfire, McIntosh was discovered clutching an AK47 rifle containing a magazine with four 7.62mm rounds of ammunition. He sustained gunshot wounds to his upper body.
McIntosh was subsequently transported to the Cornwall Regional Hospital for medical attention. However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the medical facility.
