Dhaka, Bangladesh – A Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crashed into the Milestone School & College in Uttara, Dhaka, on Monday afternoon, killing at least 19 people, including the pilot and several students. Over 160 others were injured.
The F-7 BGI jet reportedly suffered a technical failure shortly after takeoff and plummeted into the school during class hours, sparking fire and chaos.
The pilot, Flight Lieutenant Toukir Islam Sagar, is being hailed for trying to steer the jet away from crowded areas before it crashed. He later died from his injuries.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared Tuesday a national day of mourning and promised support to victims’ families. The Air Force has launched an investigation.
