Jamaica Crime News, St James: A St. James man who was slapped with various charges after giving the police a false report subsequent to his involvement in a hit-and-run incident, was granted reduced bail.
Beswick Allen, who is charged with dangerous driving, failure to report an accident and creating public mischief, had his bail cut to almost half following an application by his lawyer Gillian Haughton in the St. James Parish Court on Thursday. The initial bail amount was $250,000 but his lawyer asked that the sum be reduced to $150,000.
His other bail conditions remain the same.
Presiding judge Sandria Wong-Small subsequently set the matter for plea and case management hearing, which will be heard on September 12, and extended the accused man’s bail.
According to the allegations against Allen, on December 26, 2018, he ran his vehicle into a female and left the scene before crashing the vehicle into a wall.
Thereafter, he visited the police station and made a report that he was a victim in a robbery and that the vehicle was the subject.
The police later received information that Beswick was the driver in the hit-and-run accident. Hence, he was arrested and charged.
