Bail Denied for Constable Charged in Latoya Bulgin Killing

Constable Andrew Wilson, who is charged with the murder of Latoya “Buju” Bulgin, has been denied bail by the court.

Wilson appeared before Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton after being formally charged in connection with the May 17 shooting of Bulgin during a protest in Granville, St James.

Defence attorney Michael Hemmings argued that Wilson is not a flight risk, has no previous convictions and intends to rely on self-defence. He also criticised the prosecution for opposing bail after allegedly indicating earlier that it would not do so.

However, the judge ruled that Wilson should remain in custody, citing the seriousness of the charge and concerns about preserving public order in the community.

Wilson was remanded until June 16. The court is awaiting several outstanding documents, including additional CCTV-related evidence and forensic reports.
