Kingston, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Attorney Miguel Lorne Appeals Disbarment: WELL-KNOWN Rastafarian attorney Miguel Lorne, who was last weekend struck off the list of lawyers authorised to practise in Jamaica, has appealed his disbarment.
The General Legal Council (GLC) on Saturday took the decision to disbar Lorne after he was found guilty of professional misconduct stemming from the attorney’s handling of a real estate transaction.
Lorne’s attorney, Bert Samuel, said that his client will be challenging the GLC’s decision and has already started the process.
“The disciplinary committee handed down its decision on Saturday disbarring Mr. Lorne and we filed an appeal today (yesterday) taking issue with the findings of the GLC. We intend to also file for a stay of execution pending the outcome of the appeal.
“We are of the view that we have very good grounds to challenge the decision of the GLC and we are looking forward to our day in court,” Samuels said.
Lorne, who was some years ago suspended by the GLC, is the fourth attorney disbarred since the start of the year. The others are Harold Brady, Gregory Lopez and Richard Bonner.
