At least one Jamaican among the group of 13 deported from the United Kingdom last week has contracted COVID-19.
There were concerns, among lobbyists in the UK fighting the deportation, as well as comments by people here, that it was a terrible time to be deporting people from England facing terrible COVID-19 statistics.
The Gleaner in an article Monday tells of the pain of the man who tested positive after landing last week and whose spouse is going through a rough time in the UK.
He is in quarantine and says he was not tested for COVID-19 before being put on the charter flight with the other deportees. Initially 50 Jamaicans living in the UK had been identified for deportation.
