Alleged Mad Man Shot and Killed by Police at Barnett Street Police Station

Jamaica Crime News, St.James: The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) has now commenced a probe into the fatal shooting of an alleged insane man by a police Constable at the Barnett Street Police Station in Montego Bay, St James on Sunday morning, June 10, 2018.

The deceased man whose address is still not yet known has been identified as 43-year-old Mark Smith.

Reports by the police are that shortly after 12:45 a.m. on Sunday morning, Smith who is said to be mentally challenged walked into the guard room at the Barnett Street lockup armed with bottles.

He reportedly started to hurl bottles at several police officers who were on duty. The madman report inflicted a wound to one of the officers who pulled his service pistol and fired one shot injuring Smith.

Smith received gunshot wounds to his upper body and was transported to the Cornwall Regional hospital where he died whilst undergoing treatment.
