Seaforth, St. Thomas – A police operation conducted by the St. Thomas Proactive Investigation Unit (PIU) has led to the seizure of an AK-47 assault rifle and 18 assorted rounds of ammunition in the communities of Black Smith and Stewart Field on Wednesday, March 26.
According to reports from the Morant Bay Police, the operation took place between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. as officers conducted targeted searches in the area. During a search in Stewart Field, law enforcement officers discovered the firearm and ammunition concealed inside a knitted bag. The bag had been hidden in a PVC pipe, which was buried along the riverbed.
The recovered ammunition included six 5.56 rounds and twelve 12-gauge shotgun rounds. Despite the significant find, no arrests have been made in connection with the seizure.
Law enforcement officials continue to encourage members of the public to share any information that could assist in their efforts to combat illegal firearms and crime in the parish.
