The Ministry of Education is reporting a generally smooth start to the 2026/2027 academic year, with preliminary data showing that approximately 99.7 per cent of schools reopened on Monday.
According to the ministry, only three schools were unable to reopen.
All schools in Region 4, which includes Westmoreland, Hanover and St James, also reopened despite the parishes being affected by Hurricane Melissa last October.
The ministry said late furniture deliveries were among the most frequently reported challenges on the first day of the new academic year.
It has committed to addressing outstanding deliveries and ensuring schools receive the necessary furniture.
The ministry also reminded contractors and school administrators that areas where repairs are ongoing must be properly secured and separated from spaces being used by students and staff.
Officials say the measures are intended to ensure a safe environment as schools continue operations.
