Jamaica Crime News, Montego Bay: There is now a pall of gloom surrounding the community of Somerton in St James, following Monday evening murder of two community members, including 6-year-old Jordan Hodges, a student who attends the Infant Three section of the Somerton All Age School.
Both parents, 45-year-old Horace Hodge, a popular magician of Windsor Lodge in Somerton and 33-year-old Nasheca Grubb, broke down in tears and were unable to complete the interview.
“I miss my son so very much, and I am not angry with his killers,” his father stated.
Glendon Bryson, principal of Somerton All Age stated that Jordan was the top student in his class.
“There is no way to describe Jordan, he was a great performer and the top student in his class,” the principal stated. “In fact, we at the school were grooming Jordan for special occasions, based on his brilliance.”
6-year-old Jordan Hodges of Somerton District and another man who has been identified as Quwayne Hemmings, otherwise called “Soljie”, laborer of the said address were shot and killed by gunmen on Monday afternoon, March 4.
Reports by the police are that shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Monday, young Jordan and his 15-year-old sister were coming from school when they saw their neighbour Hemmings, who was traveling home on his motorcycle.
Hemmings stopped and gave both children a lift, he placed Jordan as a front pillion and his elder sister as a back pillion.
Hemmings had just reached the vicinity of his gate when the motorcycle was intercepted by armed men traveling in a motor car. The men blocked his path and opened fire on the motorcycle, shooting the infant and Hemmings who died on the spot.
The police were summoned and upon their arrival, Hemmings and the 6-year-old boy were rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, where Jordan also died while undergoing treatment.
