Investigators from the Area One Child Protection and Family Service Agency are probing the severe burning of a four-year-old girl, allegedly by her 9-year-old aunt, at their home in Richmond Hill, St James, on Friday.
Information received indicates that shortly after 12:00 noon, a male community member heard the four-year-old crying out, and upon investigating, he discovered the child running around with fire on her body.
He immediately raised an alarm, and other community members rushed to the location and used buckets of water, which they threw on the child to put out the blaze.
She was then rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital by another female community member, where she was treated for severe burns from her chest down.
Following investigation, the community members were made to understand that the four-year-old victim was left at home with her mother’s younger sister, who is just 9 years old.
It is also alleged that she poured a flammable substance on her baby niece and allegedly set her on fire.
The matter was also reported to the Cambridge police who are investigating.
