Jamaica Sports News: 89 golfers from 8 countries, including defending champions Puerto Rico and host Jamaica, will be in action on Wednesday, when the 31st Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship, tees off at the Caymanas golf and country club in St.Catherine.
The 54-hole championship which will see the first group of young golfers teeing off at 8:15, will be played over 4 consecutive days.
Puerto Rico has a full team and has prepared well for the championship according to coach Eduardo Figueroa.
He said though the island was affected by the hurricane last year and they have not yet fully recovered, the team is ready to defend the regional title, which they have been winning for over 10 years in a row.
The winner of the team championship, will take home the hank James trophy and there will be six age group trophies,3 each for boys and girls, including the James Moss-Solomon Trophy for Boys 18 and Under.
The other age group categories are 13 and under and 15 and under.
This year’s participants are the Bahamas, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, defending champion Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago and the Turks & Caicos islands.
